On June 15, 2023, at 6:45 PM, I performed my short electronic suite Golfo di Taranto direzione NNW on my modular synth. It was a unique performance and will not be repeated.
The event took place during the ASCOLTO SOTTILE cycle of experiences held at Ateliersi in Bologna. This multidimensional experience included a Hatha Yoga session led by Antonella Barberio and the performance of Golfo di Taranto direzione NNW.
Personally, I have never been deeply involved in meditative practices, or rather – I should say – I thought I wasn't deeply involved. The truth is that musical composition, the manipulation of a matter that is intangible by definition, is already a constant transcendence of the physical reality of things. Working with sound, with vibration, is interacting with the birth of the universe, which, as far as we know, originated from a pulsation, from a vibration, and thus from sound in a broad sense, as ancient myths teach us.
After the sonic practice, the Gulf of Taranto itself, heading NNW, became another experience that unconsciously brought me closer to meditative practices. Sitting on the deserted beach of the Gulf of Taranto, on those irregular stones that are an inconvenience to normal walking for anyone, but as children, we used to run on them before diving into the sea and then lie down, savoring their warmth and the scent of saltiness, discovering the horizon by looking toward the North-Northwest. From my native land, this direction crosses the waters of the Gulf and encounters the obstacle of the Massif of Pollino where the Sun sets. On the other side, there is the blurred line between sea and sky from which the Moon rises. It's difficult to explain in words to those who haven't experienced that land far from the summer chaos. Well, I realize that I have absorbed and channeled that cosmic energy since I was a child, and even more so when I return after a "voluntary exile". It always happens on the Gulf of Taranto, heading NNW.
